101/366 National Siblings Day

I thought I'd share this story from today -- it seemed especially appropriate on National Siblings Day. My wife, three year old son, six year old daughter and I went to a makers' fair today in Charleston. At the fair, there was a fancy bouncy castle with a slide built into it. But to get to the slide the kids had to climb up a six foot (slightly angled) ladder. My son wasn't sure what to make of it, and, after climbing the ladder the first time, decided to go straight back down the ladder. On his second attempt, he made it all the way up the ladder, but then froze once he looked over the edge and realized how steep the slide was. My daughter climbed right up the ladder and sat with my son. She sat there for at least five minutes gently encouraging my son to go down the slide, even as kid after kid snuck past and slid down the slide. Once my son gathered up enough courage, he asked my daughter to show him how to go down the slide. She slid down and he quickly followed her. My son then proceeded to climb the ladder and go down the slide over and over and over again for the next hour or so.
